Taking an idea or two from the legendary Sepultura, In Process is a groove/melo-death metal band based out of Helsinki, Finland with a particular fondness for tribal drums. Capturing the inherent groove found within the traditional instrument and combining it with melodic death metal, Surgery is a 17-minute EP that leaves quite the impression. While the opening track "I am" presents In Process' particular blend of metal, it isn't until the following track, "Enemy," that the band really cuts loose on the animal skins, accompanied by some truly crushing riffs. Surgery is a solid attempt at bridging the gap between straight-up rhythms and modern metal, and while the release might be a bit short, the band has revealed the musical landscape that they intend to explore; now we just have to wait for a full album.
