Indricothere

Indricothere

Aside from being the name of a prehistoric herbivore, Indricothere is the brainchild of Colin Marston, guitarist for Dysrhythmia and Behold… the Arctopus. Much like his Arctopus output, this solo project pivots upon its inherent technicality, but with an inhuman drum machine programmed to face-melt speed like a prog Mortician without vocals. "II” could be mid-career Morbid Angel in an alternate universe, while "V” mixes the doomier vibe of Daylight Dies with the speed of Internal Bleeding. Book-ended by prolonged, Earth-like chords, "IV” is chock-full of Opeth/Yes riffage as played by Meshuggah. If "I” is a spasmodic Cynic workout, "III” is a Ritalin-addled conflagration of Sunn0))) and Mattias IA Eklundh’s Freak Guitar. This self-titled album is five dense tracks of shred that’s part death, part tech, all brutal, exploring dark realms that don’t fit into the genre-specific vocabularies of Marston’s day jobs.
