After forbidding the music of the Beatles for 43 years, Israel has
announced a lift on the ban by inviting the two remaining members for a
visit to the holy land. The Middle Eastern nation originally outlawed the
Fab Four from performing during their run in the 60s after concerns over
whether their music would corrupt the countrys youth.
Recently the Israeli ambassador in London, Ron Prosor, asked Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr to visit the country this May in coordination with its 60th anniversary celebrations. Prosor is now in Liverpool, the Fab Fours birthplace, where he marked Holocaust Memorial Day. He is scheduled to meet with John Lennons sister Julia Baird to deliver her an official letter of apology over the ban. Another invitation is to be given to the director of the Beatles Story museum Jerry Goldman.
"Ive got close ties to Israel, so Im thrilled, said Goldman. "It would be fantastic if they did visit.
