Kinky

Multilayered with a sharp mix of sensual Latin rhythm and sly electro-pop, Kinky’s second album leaves the world music scene a template for what a good alternative Latin record should sound like. Recorded in the middle of a Mexican jungle and engineered by Thom Russo (System of a Down) the end product is reminiscent of fellow Mexican electro-pop sensation Plastilina Mosh, combining a love of all things synth with over the top guitars and funky drum kicks. Although lyrically the record lacks the soul of a good Manu Chao record and it can sometimes sound a bit forced vocally, Kinky is still able to write a good tunes that tends to get stuck in your head and make you nod to the beat all day long. Kinky is a collision between the organic sounds of the jungle with the digital buzz of metropolis and Atlas is just that, successfully capturing and introducing the world to the new era of alter-Latino.
