In the last year there have been numerous albums that have experimented with tempering extreme metal with atmospheric melodies. The Lion's Daughter, a doom metal band from St. Louis, recently combined artistic talents with somber folk group Indian Blanket to create A Black Sea, a full collaborative record between the two bands. Acoustic ballads and instrumental tracks by Indian Blanket provide various intermissions to the otherwise unrestrained rage and power of The Lion's Daughter's particular blend of extreme metal. Neither of these two distinguished sounds dominates the other, as the bands maintain an impeccable balance throughout the release. It's that balance that holds A Black Sea together, allowing for fans of both bands to equally enjoy the release.
