Make A Change is a very appealing combination of dark- and light-hued electronics in perfect balance. It's a soulful experience through and through, with richness in sound and tempo that keeps listeners and dancers equally engaged. The lead single to this album is Omar's big comeback, "Special," which lives up to its name and then some. Riding a piano stab, with bossa nova syncopation, his glorious, soulful message of personal worth is propelled into the stratosphere once the tropical beat drops. Make A Change relates just as much to the post-Paradise Garage tradition as it does to London's much-debated bass continuum. It's the vocals that make the lineage clear, with out and out bravura performances from the likes of Jenna G and Taiwah, which channel the deep house emotions of Robert Owens. Though a collaboration with Mr. Scruff looked good on paper, it's one of the few flat moments on the disc. Make A Change is extremely successful and should appeal to generations of dance music fans while still sounding forward thinking.
