If the thought of those seven Big Four shows happening overseas - the ones with Metallica (pictured), Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax performing - get your long hair all tangled up in blue because you can't make it over to, say, Bulgaria to check out the live action, there is hope. In a move that's sure to result in some distraught theatre managers, one of the shows will be broadcast to movie theatres across Canada, the U.S., Latin America and Europe.
It's a one-night-only affair to commemorate this special, never-happened-before line-up, and it's going down on June 22. According to a message sent out via the Metallica mailing list, ticket prices in the U.S. will be "around $20," and the band's full sets will not be shown, but "you'll see most of the action." Show time will be 7:30 p.m. local time and the bands will get 45 minutes each, except for headliners Metallica, who will get 75, according to Billboard.
Tickets go on sale May 28 (May 21 in the U.S.).
The Big Four shows are given their name by the fact that back in thrash metal's mid- to late '80s heyday, these bands were the four main players in the scene. They've never all shared the stage together and have a long history of rivalries (Megadeth's Dave Mustaine vs. Metallica, Mustaine vs. Slayer, uh, everyone vs. Mustaine); it's all sure to add up to an entertaining night.
The shows are going to be Anthrax's first gigs with returning vocalist Joey Belladonna, who recently rejoined the band for another go at the gold.
Wondering if your city is going to be taking part in the festivities? Head here for a list of movie theatres and ticket information. And, no, patrons are not allowed to bring six-packs inside the theatres.
