Mikael Stavostrand

Stavostrand, part of the Force Inc. crew, has put out an album that fans of Pole and Monolake would do well have in their collection. A restless mood lingers throughout these compositions. In particular, track three gave me the cinematic impression of the way a build up is created for a La Femme Nikita-style assassination scene. Using only the sparsest choices from his sonic palette, Stravostrand explores his textural possibilities with a strong dance sensibility. This album also retains a nocturnal feel for dance spaces or just brooding off in a corner. There are no groundbreaking noises per se on this album but then again most Mille Plateaux artists are more interested in exploring their music with already established sounds. For that reason I would call Reduce prog-techno.
