At an unimaginable clip of roughly four releases per year, you'd expect at some point to see a noticeable drop in production value at the Moka Only beat factory. Though that day will one day come, new disc Carrots And Eggs proves that it's not arriving anytime soon, as the record continues the good work done on this summer's Clap Trap, further solidifying Moka's status as a severely underrated beat conductor. Crunchy beats and crackly melodic overlays establish the feel as the MC calmly slips from one brief sound idea to the next, with the few short minutes devoted to each track keeping things fresh and fluid. The intricate, synth-y tones and spacious backing vocals of "Starfish" offer a prime example of the embracive nature of Moka's soundscapes, while the unorthodox percussive sounds of "Insular" balance things out with some necessary grit. Scratch the disc's annoying series of interludes about carrots and eggs and you're left with yet another solid effort from the dependable Vancouverite.
