If being one of the top bubbling-under MCs of the past few years wasn't enough, indelible left-coast lyricist Blu (a man of a thousand mixtapes, and a handful of aliases) is now approaching unstoppable status, this time donning his producer's cap, alongside kindred wordsmith Sene. Under the pseudonym GODlee Barnes, the tireless scribe-turned-music machine takes a seat behind the boards and hammers out each scrumptious track on Sene's debut LP, A Day Late And A Dollar Short, allowing his lyrical companion to tell his story, which the crafty, incessantly observational mic-man does in much the same way as his five-tool cohort. Tales of life, love and the beginnings of manhood flow like water over a simmering brew of full-bodied jazz and soul-based moods, with a host of smirk-inducing, between-cut samples setting up the many injected moments of light-hearted revelry. With nary a weak track to be found, the record represents both one more gem from Blu and a welcomed revelation of yet another fresh-faced, cheer-worthy MC.
