Veterans of the Halifax music scene, though now residing in Montreal, Tasseomancy continue to subtly evolve and mutate. From their roots-derived freak folk beginnings as Ghost Bees, eventually adding glittering trinkets from electro, world, cabaret and many other musical points, twin sisters Sari and Romy Lightman retain their magic.
As they ran through songs from a new, soon-to-be released album, Palm Wine, the four-piece band unveiled a current incarnation of Tasseomancy that has one foot planted firmly in almost classical art-pop and another that dips its toes in everything from country to island rhythms. A Robbie Basho cover proved to be the loveliest moment of their afternoon performance, showcasing both their constant ethereal presence and flexibility. I can't wait to hear where they go next.
