Pieces of Air is a collection of uniquely compiled field recordings done through multiple microphones, both professional and handmade, placed strategically about the recording subject matter. Apart from the specific sounds recorded, such as crickets, water against a rocky coast and Islamic calls to prayer in Istanbul, this CD is also a study of air movements, such as wind, or movements of air currents in open and enclosed spaces. Listening to Pieces of Air is akin to going on an audio expedition along various coastal locations and natural spaces with both forests and exotic urban locales. For the truly discriminating audiophile, Tsunoda reveals the inherent beauty in everyday things, like crickets, seashores, echoes in a room and the movement of crowds of people, thus creating an exposition of the sacred in the ordinary.
